Following his overdose, Gahan was arrested, incarcerated and forced into a court-mandated diversion program that included a year of required counseling as well as mandatory drug tests. He's been sober ever since. I was kind of a goner. Both Gore and Gahan had submerged themselves into worlds of excess following the band's tour supporting Songs of Faith and Devotion.
Depeche Mode found themselves in need of a break, but they were also uncertain about their future when Alan Wilder, who played synths in the band, decided to leave. I have had a spurt of inspiration. I think it was Bobby Gillespie who once said in an interview that you would chastise your band members for putting cutlery into the dishwasher the wrong way up.
Is this true and have you got other domestic-based chunks of wisdom? With our current machine you lay the cutlery in line on a rack, which makes it even more obsessional. My tip is never use an oven self-cleaning facility more than twice because any more than that and it will overheat and destroy the oven, as I found out recently.
What was the best concert that you have attended by another band? The sound, the beauty and the sheer power of the music was incredible.
I was so overwhelmed with feelings that it brought me to tears. I could have been some kind of thief. I was easily led, but I also liked painting.
Out of that scene came the chance to participate in music, which gave me a sense of purpose. It felt like the weirdos were my kind of people. But it was a surprise. In retrospect, it looks like an obvious pairing.
Until I read that in New Guinea, two missionaries got eaten, and that was off the table. I guess I realised that Martin gets some energy and ideas out of religious writing and the Bible.
Combined with my background, I think that felt very natural. Corbijn also seems to have been blessed with an acute insight into what made Depeche Mode work. In the late 80s, he published a book called Strangers, featuring photographs of the band in Prague and the Mojave Desert, ostensibly to emphasise their burgeoning popularity both in eastern Europe and the US.
In the former, they look like austere European electronic artists; in the latter — stripped to the waist, strumming guitars amid the cacti — like a traditional rock band.
The group has release more than 10 studio albums and achieved worldwide record sales of over million. So what does Depeche Mode look like now and what are they up to? Well, touring to promote the release of their newest album "Spirit," as it turns out! The trio are once again on the road, but in case you don't get the chance to see what Depeche Mode looks like now live and in person, we've got you covered here with recent photos of the band and info on what its members have been up to recently.
Over the years, Dave's iconic voice has established him as one of the music world's most popular leading men. He moved to New York City in and has been married three time, during which he became the father of a daughter and a son. Dave also made news during the early 's due to his struggles with heroine.
