This was another collaboration between Lon Chaney, Sr who played Echo the ventriloquist and Browning. It also marked the first screen appearance of the midget, Harry Earles, as Tweedledee, the grown man who poses as a baby to chilling effect.
It was a huge hit for MGM, and, subsequently, the studio gave Browning creative licence to mine his macabre past.
